L/MWS (12) Building a Strengths-Based Organization

Imagine working to your strengths to achieve excellence?  How can you identify and cultivate employees'’ character strengths?

A strengths is conceptualized as a "pre-existing capacity for a particular way of behaving, thinking, or feeling that is authentic and energizing to the user, and enables optimal functioning, development, and performance" (Linley, 2008).


Research by the team at the VIA Institute on Character has shown that organizations that are focused on character strengths, 77% of their employees report that they are flourishing, engaged, and able to make things happen at work.  Employees who apply their signature strengths to their unique work circumstances experience greater job satisfaction, pleasure, engagement, and meaning.


Key Content and Learning Outcomes


    . build a case for a strengths-based organization
    . understand the powerful role of character strengths within the workplace
    . discover how people'’s behaviors and choices are a reflection of their own character strengths
    .  illuminate how negative experiences can be essential for success
(frustration, anger, and disappointment can become prods for effort and mastery)
    . recognize the value of strengths as pathways to employee engagement
    . help employees cultivate grit and determination they need in order to flourish
    . use your strengths to become more resonant and resilient
    . cultivate interventions to align these strengths with the roles that are needed


In addition to understanding how we can create a strengths-based organization, there will be a focus on one'’s inner strengths - capabilities, emotions, attitudes, somatic inclinations, and virtues.


Using leading edge research, we will embark on a journey of self-awareness.  Participants will be asked to complete a character strength survey in order to harness their own signature strengths.


Through experiential activities and discussion, participants will understand how to align and deploy signature strengths with tasks and projects.
